The US. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) on product labeling requirements

Consumer products are subject to various labeling requirements based on product type, design, components, and intended age group. Below is a summary of the most common CPSC labeling requirements that may apply. (Note: Additional federal or state labeling requirements may apply depending on product function and composition. Also, the CPSC does not regulate all products sold in the U.S. – many fall under other agencies such as the FTC, FDA, and EPA.)
Tracking labels. All applicable children’s products must bear tracking labels on the product and its packaging.
Small parts labeling. Applies to products containing small parts intended for children aged 3 to 6. Specific requirements are in 16 CFR 1500.19, 1500.20, and 1500.121.
Federal Hazardous Substances Act (FHSA). The FHSA requires precautionary labeling on immediate containers of hazardous household substances to help consumers store and use them safely and provide first‑aid information.
Art materials. Must carry the statement "Conforms to ASTM D‑4236" and be reviewed by a toxicologist.
Children’s toys. ASTM F963‑17 includes specific labeling requirements for certain toys. Each toy should also bear an appropriate age grading.
Durable infant or toddler products. In addition to tracking labels, these must comply with product and packaging labeling requirements, including product registration cards, warning labels, and hazard warnings.
