Nordic Swan Ecolabel certification
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is the world’s first multinational environmental labeling system. It was established in 1989 by the Nordic Council of Ministers as an exclusive Nordic environmental labeling system. It is a voluntary product environmental labeling scheme for manufacturers and provides positive encouragement for environmentally responsible products. The participating countries include Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Denmark (joined in 1997). These five countries established a Nordic cooperation group for joint management. Once a product is verified in one of these countries, it can be recognized and used in the other four countries.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel – Strict Environmental Requirements
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is neutral and independent. It ensures that environmentally friendly products meet high environmental standards. It is one of the highest environmental standards in Europe and the first environmental standard recognized by multiple countries worldwide. It is currently regarded as one of the most prestigious environmental labels in Europe.
When developing requirements for ecolabel products, the entire product life cycle, from raw materials to production, use, disposal, and recycling, is included in the evaluation. This is essential to ensure the reduction of overall environmental and climate impacts. In addition to environmental requirements, the standards also include requirements related to product performance to ensure quality and durability.
By purchasing products and services carrying the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, consumers can contribute to a more sustainable environment and become part of the millions of people in the Nordic market making climate-friendly choices. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is comprehensive, as it considers the entire life cycle of products and all related environmental issues within its criteria.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel – Promoting the Circular Economy
We are consuming the Earth’s resources excessively. Global warming is one of the greatest challenges we face, and the amount of waste we generate continues to increase. In other words, we urgently need a circular economy. We need to move away from the linear economy model, where companies produce products, sell them to consumers, and consumers dispose of them after use.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel and the EU Ecolabel not only promote the circular economy, but also encourage companies to improve resource efficiency and enhance competitiveness by creating new business models and innovative solutions.

Nordic Swan Ecolabel – Certification Timeline
The certification process generally takes 4–6 months. Therefore, registration and application should be submitted at least 6 months before the product launch date.
Nordic Swan Ecolabel – Certificate Validity
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel license remains valid as long as the product continues to meet the applicable criteria until the criteria expire. Generally, one version of the criteria is valid for 3–5 years. When new criteria are released, label holders must reapply for certification according to the requirements of the new criteria. The new criteria must be published one year before the expiration of the previous criteria. The validity period of the criteria may be extended. In such cases, the validity period of the certificate will also be automatically extended, and label holders will be notified accordingly.
