    Introduction to UNI EN ISO 105-E05 Standard

    The ISO 105-E05:2006 standard holds significant practical importance in the textile industry. It standardizes the testing of textiles' color fastness in typical environments such as seawater and pool water, helping manufacturers ensure the color stability of their products during actual use. This prevents issues such as fading or dye transfer that may affect the wearing experience or lead to quality complaints. The standard is especially suitable for quality control of swimwear, casual wear, sportswear, and water-related workwear, providing direct value in enhancing product competitiveness and meeting international market entry requirements.

     

    Scope of UNI EN ISO 105-E05

    This standard applies to all types of textiles, testing their color fastness to spotting with seawater or chlorinated water (such as pool water).

     

     

    UNI EN ISO 105-E05 Testing Method

    An acid solution is dropped onto the test sample, and the surface is gently rubbed with a glass rod to facilitate the penetration of the acid. The color change of the textile is then observed both while wet and after drying. The color change can be assessed visually or instrumentally. The specific testing method is as follows:

    The prepared sample is sewn with a multi-fiber strip and soaked in standard seawater or chlorinated water solution.

    The sample is then placed in a prescribed pressure device and treated at a specified temperature and time (e.g., 37±2°C for 4 hours) to simulate wearing or usage conditions.

    After treatment, the sample is removed and left to air dry or dried according to the specified drying method.

     

    During the test, a multi-fiber strip is used, which includes fibers such as cotton, wool, polyamide, polyester, acrylic, and acetate, to detect the dye migration onto different fiber types.

     

    UNI EN ISO 105-E05 Judgement Criteria

    The evaluation is performed using the grey scale:

    Color Change Grade: Determines whether the sample's color has changed, with grades ranging from 1 (worst) to 5 (best).

    Staining Grade: Assesses the staining of various fibers on the multi-fiber strip, with grades also ranging from 1 to 5.
