European ceramic tile standard EN 14411:2016 (Ceramic tiles — Definitions, classification, characteristics and marking)
Category:
Ceramic Tile
Background
EN 14411:2016 (Ceramic Tiles — Definitions, Classification, Characteristics and Marking) is a European standard published by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). It specifies the definitions, classification, characteristics, and marking requirements for ceramic tiles, and provides guidance for enterprises applying this standard.
Scope of Application
EN 14411:2016 applies to indoor and outdoor ceramic tiles manufactured by dry pressing or extrusion, including stair tiles. It does not apply to ceramic tiles used for outdoor road surfaces, ceilings, or suspended ceilings.
Category
According to EN 14411:2016, ceramic tiles are classified based on their forming method and water absorption rate:
|
Molding method |
I Class (low water absorption) Eb≤3% |
II Class (medium water absorption) 3% < Eb ≤ 6% |
II Class (medium water absorption) 6% < Eb ≤ 10% |
III Type (High Water Absorption) Eb>10% |
|
A Extrusion |
AⅠa Class Eb ≤ 0.5% AⅠb Class 0.5% < Eb ≤ 3% |
AⅡa-1 Class AⅡa-2 Class |
AⅡb-1 Class AⅡb-2 Class |
AⅢ Class |
|
B Dry pressing |
BⅠa Class Eb ≤ 0.5% BⅠb Class 0.5% < Eb ≤ 3% |
BⅡa Class |
BⅡb Class |
BⅢ Class |
|
(1)AⅡa Classes A and AⅡb are divided into two sections based on the differing performance characteristics of the products. (2)BⅢ This category includes only glazed bricks; it excludes dry‑pressed, unglazed bricks with an water absorption rate exceeding 10%. |
