GB 18580 Standard Description
GB 18580 Indoor Decoration and Renovation Materials - Formaldehyde Emission Limits for Man-Made Boards and Their Products
Introduction to GB 18580 Standard
As concerns over indoor air quality grow, national regulations have become stricter in controlling formaldehyde emissions from man-made boards, reducing renovation-related pollution, and safeguarding consumer health. GB 18580 is a mandatory national standard in China that regulates formaldehyde emissions from indoor man-made boards and their products. The standard sets the formaldehyde emission limit at 0.124 mg/m³ (E1 grade) and specifies the use of a 1m³ climate chamber method as the reference testing method.
Scope of GB 18580
This standard applies to man-made boards and their products used for indoor decoration and renovation, including:
◎Fiberboards, particle boards, plywood, plywood boards
◎Reconstituted decorative materials, veneer laminated materials, and engineered wood
◎Decorative man-made boards, wooden flooring, wooden wall panels, and wooden doors and windows
GB 18580 Testing Method
To determine the formaldehyde release of man-made boards and their products, the 1m³ climate chamber method (GB/T 17657—2013, Section 4.60) is used. The specific testing conditions are as follows:
◎Sample Size: 500mm× 500mm (surface area: 1m²). If the sample is smaller, it may be combined with others.
◎Testing Environment: Temperature: (23±0.5) °C; Relative Humidity: (45±3) %; Air Exchange Rate: (1.0±0.05) changes per hour.
◎Testing Duration: Minimum of 10 days, or until the formaldehyde emission stabilizes.
◎Emission Limit: ≤ 0.124 mg/m³ (E1 Grade).
GB 18580 Judgment Criteria
The formaldehyde emission limit for man-made boards and their products used in indoor decoration and renovation materials is 0.124 mg/m², with the emission grade labeled as E1.
