What is a baby swing?
The infant swing standard covers products with a powered mechanism that enables the seat to oscillate or slide in any direction relative to the frame (e.g., forward/backward, side‑to‑side, or along an arc). An “infant swing” is intended from birth until the infant attempts to climb out (about 9 months). A “cradle swing” is also included; it allows infants to lie flat while rocking and is suitable from birth until the infant begins to push up on hands and knees (around 5 months).
What is the purpose of the infant swing standard?
This standard reduces death and injury risks from tipping, collapse, structural failure, and entrapment in restraints or leg openings.

What are the requirements for baby swings?
ASTM F2088 sets stringent requirements for restraint systems, tip‑over prevention, seat angles, structural integrity, electrical components, and unintended folding.
Additional CPSIA requirements for infant swings
Baby swings must comply with:
1.Surface coating – paint shall not exceed 0.009% lead.
2.Lead content – any accessible part shall not exceed 100 ppm.
3.Phthalates – plasticised components shall not contain more than 0.1% of any of the eight restricted phthalates (DEHP, DBP, BBP, DINP, DIBP, DPENP, DHEXP, DCHP).
4.Testing and certification – must be tested by a CPSC‑accredited third‑party lab; based on testing, the domestic manufacturer or importer must issue a Children’s Product Certificate (CPC).
5.Labeling and registration – durable infant/toddler products must bear permanent traceability labels on product and packaging, plus additional markings and a product registration card attached to the product.
