IEC 60695-2-13 (GB 5169.13) Standard Introduction
IEC 60695-2-13 (GB 5169.13) specifies the glow-wire test method for determining the Glow-Wire Ignition Temperature (GWIT) of solid electrical insulating materials or other solid materials.
In this test, an electrically heated glow wire is used as the ignition source to determine the ignition temperature of the test specimen, allowing relative comparison of the ignition characteristics of different materials.
However, this method is not suitable for evaluating the flammability of complete equipment, as the structure of the insulation system, combustible components, and surrounding parts may significantly affect the flammability performance of the material.

Definition and Explanation of the Glow Wire Ignition Temperature (GWIT)
The GWIT is defined as the temperature that is 25 K higher than the maximum temperature of the glow-wire tip that does not cause ignition of the test specimen of the specified thickness in three consecutive tests (or 30 K higher when the temperature range is between 900 °C and 960 °C).

IEC 60695-2-13 (GB 5169.13) Test Method
The test specimen shall be mounted or clamped so that heat dissipation caused by the support or fixing arrangement is negligible. The flat surface of the specimen shall be positioned vertically, and the tip of the glow wire shall be applied to the center of this surface.
The glow wire shall be electrically heated to the specified test temperature required to ignite the specimen. The applicable test temperatures are shown in the table below.

- If ignition occurs, a new specimen shall be used and the temperature shall be reduced by 50 K (60 K at 960 °C) for repeat testing.
- If ignition does not occur, a new specimen shall be used and the temperature shall be increased by 50 K (60 K at 960 °C) for repeat testing. If ignition does not occur in three consecutive tests, the temperature interval shall be reduced to 25 K (30 K at 960 °C).

IEC 60695-2-13 (GB 5169.13) Test Result Evaluation
Record the GWIT value:
(1) The ignition temperature of the specimen shall be determined during the application of the glow wire. When no ignition occurs in three consecutive tests, the maximum glow-wire tip temperature shall be increased by 25 K (30 K between 900 °C and 960 °C), and this temperature shall be recorded as the GWIT.
(2) The record format is GWIT. Test temperature / Thickness of the test specimen. For example, :GWIT.850/3.0 。
