According to Notice No. 18 issued by the National Standardization Administration Committee in 2020, GB 20653-2020 Protective Clothing — High Visibility Warning Clothing for Professional Use came into force on August 1, 2020, and simultaneously replaced the previous version of the standard, GB 20653-2006 High Visibility Warning Clothing for Professional Use.
Definition
Clothing specially designed and manufactured with fluorescent and retroreflective materials to enhance the wearer’s visibility and provide warning effects in low-visibility and high-risk environments.
Scope of Application
Applicable to high-visibility warning clothing worn by workers in low-visibility environments to improve visual conspicuity and enhance safety.
Main Technical Content
The standard specifies performance requirements for the classification and design of high-visibility warning clothing, including background materials, non-fluorescent materials, composite performance materials, and the retroreflective performance requirements of reflective materials and composite performance materials.
Differences Between the New and Previous Versions, Compared with GB 20653-2006, the main technical changes are as follows:
The Following Contents Have Been Added:
1.Certain terms and definitions;
2.Requirements for measuring the surface area of warning clothing and evaluating performance levels;
3.Normative Appendix D “Arrangement of Reflective Strips During Industrial Washing”;
4.Informative Appendix F “Environmental Risk Level and Visibility-Based Clothing Design Guidelines”, providing reference information for the application and design of high-visibility warning clothing.
The Following Contents Have Been Revised:
1.The standard name has been changed from “High-Visibility Warning Clothing for Occupational Use” to “Protective Clothing — High Visibility Warning Clothing for Professional Use”;
2.Design requirements for high-visibility warning clothing;
3.Ergonomic requirements for warning clothing;
4.Technical requirements for sweat colorfastness of background materials and non-fluorescent materials;
5.Technical requirements for washing colorfastness, dry-cleaning colorfastness, hypochlorite bleaching colorfastness, and hot pressing colorfastness of background materials and non-fluorescent materials;
6.Technical requirements for dimensional changes of background materials and non-fluorescent materials have been updated, including corresponding test methods for measurement;
7.Technical requirements for the mechanical properties of background materials and non-fluorescent materials;
8.Chemical safety performance requirements for background materials and non-fluorescent materials;
9.The requirements for the retroreflective performance of single-performance reflective materials have been removed, and a three-level classification system has been established with standardized technical requirements;
10.Test methods for wet cleaning and dry cleaning;
11.The reflective material grade identifiers have been removed from the graphic symbols for high-visibility warning clothing.
