ISTA 6-Amazon-SIOC Type D Test Method

    Category:

    Package

Amazon Type D testing applies to individual packaged products weighing less than 100 lb (45 kg) or with a girth greater than 165 inches (4.19 m) that are shipped via less-than-truckload (LTL). These products use the standard handling shipping method. Girth is calculated as L + 2(W + H).

Less-than-truckload (LTL) refers to a shipping method where a shipment's weight or volume is insufficient to fill an entire truck (not meeting full truckload requirements), and therefore shares a truck with other cargo.

The standard handling shipping method is also referred to as floor-loaded, and applies to products received at Amazon fulfillment centers as individual packages without pallets, or multiple packaged products on a single pallet but sold to consumers without the pallet.

Type D testing is specifically designed for standard packaged products in LTL shipment. Both elongated and flat packaged products are included in this category. All packages that qualify for this test type are not loaded on pallets or slip sheets.

The purpose of Amazon packaging test Type D is to evaluate the protective performance of product packaging and obtain ISTA 6 Amazon SIOC certification. The packaged product will be subjected to vibration, impact, and other stress-related tests that simulate the hazards encountered during transportation to the customer.

Products that pass the test sequence listed in the table below may qualify for Amazon SIOC (Ships in Own Container) certification.
