ISTA 6-Amazon-SIOC Type F Test Method
Category:
Package
Amazon Type F testing applies to individual packaged products shipped via less-than-truckload (LTL) using pallet handling. Pallet handling means that Amazon fulfillment centers receive individual packaged products on a single pallet, and the products are also delivered to the end consumer on the pallet.
Less-than-truckload (LTL) refers to a shipping method where a shipment's weight or volume is insufficient to fill an entire truck (not meeting full truckload requirements), and therefore shares a truck with other cargo.
Type F testing is specifically designed for palletized packaged products in LTL delivery. Both elongated and flat packaged products are included in this category. All packages that qualify for this test type are shipped on pallets or slip sheets.
The purpose of Amazon packaging test Type F is to evaluate the protective performance of product packaging and obtain ISTA 6 Amazon SIOC certification. The packaged product will be subjected to vibration, impact, and other stress-related tests that simulate the hazards encountered during transportation to the customer
Products that pass the test sequence listed in the table below may qualify for Amazon SIOC (Ships in Own Container) certification.

A packaged product with the shortest dimension measuring 8 inches (200 mm) or less, and the second-longest dimension measuring at least 4 times the shortest dimension. The package volume is 800 cubic inches (13,000 cm³) or greater
ISTA and Amazon have identified the following advantages of packaging testing:
◉ Shorten time-to-market
◉ Increase confidence in product launches
◉ Reduce product damage and loss
◉ Balance distribution costs
◉ Enhance customer satisfaction and help increase market share
Recertification is required when any of the following occurs:
◉ Any change to the packaging
◉ Any change to the product design
◉ Damage is observed by Amazon during the delivery of products to customers
