    ISTA 6-SAMSCLUB Packaging Transport Testing

    Category:

    Package

ISTA 6-SAMSCLUB is a test protocol for packaged products destined for shipment through the SAMSCLUB distribution system to locations across the United States. Within this system, packaged products typically travel from the manufacturer or producer through one or more distribution centers (DCs) before arriving at SAMSCLUB club locations (stores). Various types of handling may occur at the distribution centers, including manual handling, forklift, clamp truck, and others.

ISTA 6-SAMSCLUB stipulates that the original shipping configuration may be altered at the distribution center to accommodate system needs and club (store) requirements. Final shipments to club locations are typically palletized. This test was released as an ISTA project in October 2010.

The ISTA 6-SAMSCLUB test defines four packaging types based on product characteristics, packaging, loading configuration, and other factors:

Type A : Non-perishable products initially shipped on pallets. Type A is further subdivided into shipments arriving at the club (warehouse) with the same pallet load configuration and shipments arriving at the club (warehouse) with a changed pallet load configuration.

Type B : Non-perishable packaged products weighing 50 lb or more, initially floor-loaded

Type C : Non-perishable packaged products weighing less than 50 lb, initially floor-loaded

Type D : Perishable products initially shipped on pallets

Type A– Products that are not easily perishable and were initially transported on pallets.
