Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) US. Mattress Recycling Registration
At least 20 million mattresses are discarded in the United States each year, with more than 50,000 mattresses discarded every day. Traditional mattresses are bulky and structurally complex. Direct landfill disposal not only wastes space, but also leads to the loss of resources. Up to 75% of the materials in a mattress are recyclable — through professional dismantling and sorting, these materials can re-enter the recycling system:
⬤ Foam & Fiber: After compression, they can be used for carpet padding or insulation materials;
⬤ Wood: It can be shredded and used as fuel or garden mulch;
⬤ Steel Springs: They can be sent to steel mills for reprocessing and used for construction rebar, etc.;
⬤ Cotton Fibers: They can be reused in the production of insulation materials.

Mattress Recycling Council (MRC)
The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) is a nonprofit organization created by the International Sleep Products Association (ISPA), with the purpose of developing and implementing statewide mattress recycling programs in states that have enacted mattress recycling laws.

Mattress Recycling Program — Bye Bye Mattress
“Bye Bye Mattress” is a mattress recycling program operated by the Mattress Recycling Council. MRC is a nonprofit organization that makes mattress recycling more convenient for communities by charging a recycling fee on each mattress and foundation sold. The “Bye Bye Mattress” mattress recycling program is established by law and covers the following states:
⬤ California (CA)
⬤ Connecticut (CT)
⬤ Oregon (OR)
⬤ Rhode Island (RI)

MRC Mattress Recycling Registration and Reporting
According to the laws enacted by California (CA), Connecticut (CT), Rhode Island (RI), and Oregon (OR), the mattress industry must establish mattress recycling systems in the above states.
Depending on the region of business operation, relevant enterprises, including Manufacturer, Distributor, Renovator, and Retailer, may need to register with the Mattress Recycling Council. Any enterprise selling specified products to consumers in these states must collect the recycling processing fee on behalf of the program in each transaction and remit the funds to the Mattress Recycling Council on a monthly basis.
