    What are VOCs?

    VOC is the abbreviation for Volatile Organic Compounds. In general terms, VOC refers to organic compounds that are volatile. From an environmental perspective, VOC specifically refers to reactive volatile organic compounds that may cause harm to human health and the environment. Common VOCs include benzene, toluene, xylene, ethylbenzene, styrene, formaldehyde, TVOC (total volatile organic compounds, typically C6–C16 alkanes), ketones and others. Common VOCs include benzene, toluene, xylene, ethylbenzene, styrene, formaldehyde, TVOC (total volatile organic compounds, typically C6–C16 alkanes), ketones and others.

    The most common classification method currently used for VOCs is based on boiling point, as shown in the table below.
