Its requirements for pollutants and emissions go far beyond existing legal regulations.

Once a product obtains eco-INSTITUT , it can be safely used in the home. Such products contain no trace amounts of harmful chemicals and will not release unhealthy or unpleasant emissions into your living environment. For many households, these are key considerations when purchasing new products.

Applicable product categories for eco-INSTITUT label
1.Building products: paints and coatings; sealants; wooden flooring, laminates, and panels; wood/drywall materials (e.g., MDF boards, particle boards, OSB boards); adhesives; mineral-based building materials.
2.Mattresses and bedding: latex mattresses; polyurethane mattresses; spring mattresses; futons filled with kapok, coconut fiber, horsehair, or synthetic fibers; duvets and cushions made from animal, plant, or synthetic fillings.
3.Furniture: furniture made from solid wood, coated or uncoated wood-based panels; furniture made from synthetic materials or metal; upholstered furniture with fabric or leather coverings.
Application process for eco-INSTITUT label for mattresses
1.Pre-application
Submit the application form and relevant product documentation, including full material declarations, supplier information, Safety Data Sheets (SDS) (for mattresses, an EN 1957 report is also required), product technical specifications, and SDS. The application proceeds to the next stage only after official review and approval.
2.Factory audit
The audit is conducted by overseas professionals or designated domestic office personnel to verify the pre-certification data, review the quality management system and supply chain, and perform sampling.
3.Laboratory testing
Testing is conducted by officially designated laboratories, including emission testing (DIN EN 16516 and ISO 16000) and analysis of heavy metals, pesticides, and halogenated organic compounds.
4.Documentation processing (submission, signing, etc.)
After passing laboratory testing, relevant documents are submitted and signed.
5.Label issuance
After completing documentation processing, the official body issues the eco-INSTITUT label file in PDF format (German / English / French versions).
eco-INSTITUT timeline: minimum 12 weeks.
Validity period of eco-INSTITUT label
The eco-INSTITUT label is valid for 2 years. After 2 years, the product must be re-certified, following the latest testing standards, including pre-assessment, factory audit, and laboratory testing.
