    What is Artificial Stone?

    Artificial stone is a building material used as an alternative to natural stone surfaces for external and internal wall applications. It is produced using unsaturated polyester resin as a binder, combined with natural marble or calcite, dolomite, silica sand, glass powder, and other inorganic fillers, as well as appropriate amounts of flame retardants and colorants. The mixture is processed through batching, casting, vibration compression, extrusion, or pressing, and then cured to form the final product.Typically, artificial stone has a thickness of approximately 2–4 cm and is manufactured in various designs. Compared with natural stone, artificial stone offers advantages such as bright colors, high surface gloss, uniform coloration, good compressive strength and wear resistance, strong toughness, dense structure, durability, low density, non-water absorption, resistance to weathering and erosion, minimal color variation, non-fading properties, and low radioactivity. It also provides benefits in resource utilization and plays an important role in environmental protection and energy saving, making it a truly green building material.

     

     
     

    Artificial Stone CE Certification

    CE is the abbreviation of the French term Conformité Européenne (European Conformity). In order to protect consumer safety and promote trade among EU member states, the European Committee for Standardization has established relevant directives for various product categories, requiring products circulating in the EU market to bear the CE marking and comply with basic technical and safety requirements. On 1 July 2013, the EU required most construction stone products to implement CE certification under CPR 305/2011. For products manufactured outside the EU, those without the CE mark are increasingly restricted from entering the EU free trade zone. Therefore, obtaining the CE mark is often regarded as a “passport” for entering the EU market.

     

     

    Countries covered under CE certification include EU member states: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Malta, Cyprus, Bulgaria, Romania;

    European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member states: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway;

    In addition, Turkey is actively aligning with EU requirements, and CE certification is also required for stone products entering the Turkish market.

     

    Risks of Non-CE Certified Stone Products in the European Market include:

    Risk of being detained or seized by customs

    Risk of regulatory enforcement actions by market surveillance authorities

    Risk of complaints or claims initiated by competitors for compliance violations

     

    Artificial Stone CE Certification Requirements

    According to the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR 305/2011/EU), stone products exported to EU countries must obtain mandatory CE certification. The applicable harmonized standards are determined based on product use environment and application purpose as follows:

    EN 15285 Agglomerated stone. Modular tiles for flooring and stairs (internal and external)

    EN 15286 Agglomerated stone – Slabs and tiles for wall finishes (internal and external)

     

     

    The certification system is determined based on application scenario (indoor or outdoor use) and declared reaction to fire classification.

    According to EU CPR 305/2011 regulation, the following stone products require CE marking:

    Natural stone: granite, marble, natural quartz stone, slate, limestone, sandstone, etc.

    Artificial stone: artificial marble, artificial quartz stone, solid surface materials, microcrystalline stone, engineered stone, etc.
