    ISO 7176-1:2014 /AS/NZS ISO 7176-1:2015 Wheelchairs - Determination of Static Stability

    ISO 7176-1:2014 specifies the test methods for determining the static stability of wheelchairs.

    It applies to manual and electrically powered wheelchairs, including scooters, with a maximum speed not exceeding 15 km/h, designed for indoor and/or outdoor mobility of persons with disabilities within the scope of ISO 7176-11.

    For wheelchairs equipped with active stability control systems, ISO 7176-1:2014 applies when the equipment is in a stable parked condition.

    ISO 7176-1:2014 provides a method for measuring the tipping angle of a wheelchair or anti-tip device. However, this method does not apply to wheelchairs equipped with lateral anti-tip devices and does not consider ground sliding effects.

    ISO 7176-1:2014 also specifies requirements for test reports and information disclosure.

     

    ISO 7176-2:2017 Wheelchairs Part 2: Determination of dynamic stability of electric wheelchairs

    ISO 7176-2:2017 specifies the test methods for determining the dynamic stability of electrically powered wheelchairs.

    ISO 7176-2:2017 applies to electrically powered wheelchairs, including scooters, with a maximum rated speed not exceeding 15 km/h, intended for transporting users.

    ISO 7176-2:2017 does not apply to manual wheelchairs equipped with auxiliary power units or conversion kits.

     

    ISO 7176-3: 2012/AS/NZS ISO 7176-3:2015 Wheelchairs - Determination of effectiveness of brakes

    ISO 7176-3:2012 specifies the test methods for measuring braking performance of manual and power-assisted wheelchairs, including scooters, intended to carry a single occupant with a maximum speed not exceeding 15 km/h.

    It also specifies information disclosure requirements for manufacturers.

     

    ISO 7176-4:2008 Wheelchairs Part 4: Energy consumption of electric wheelchairs and scooters for determination of theoretical distance range

    ISO 7176-4:2008 specifies a method for determining the theoretical range of electrically powered wheelchairs, including mobility scooters, by measuring energy consumption during operation and the rated energy capacity of the wheelchair battery pack.

    This standard applies to electric wheelchairs and scooters with a maximum nominal speed not exceeding 15 km/h, designed for indoor and/or outdoor mobility of persons with disabilities within the scope of ISO 7176-11.

    ISO 7176-4:2008 also specifies requirements for test reports and information disclosure.

     

    ISO 7176-5:2008 Wheelchairs - Method for determination dimensions, mass and turning space

    ISO 7176-5:2008 specifies methods for determining wheelchair dimensions and mass.

    It includes methods for determining the external dimensions of wheelchairs when occupied by a reference occupant, as well as the maneuvering space required for common wheelchair movements in daily use.

    ISO 7176-5:2008 specifies requirements for disclosure of dimensions and mass and includes five informative annexes.

    ● Annex A specifies methods for determining technical dimensions that significantly affect wheelchair performance.

    ● Annex B provides detailed information on axle width and reversing width.

    ● Annex C provides detailed information on turning diameter.

    ● Annex D provides detailed information for determining the longitudinal axis and center point of wheelchairs.

    ● Annex E provides technical guidance and interpretation for various specified measurements, supporting improvements in wheelchair understanding, design, and construction.

    ISO 7176-5:2008 applies to both manual and powered wheelchairs, including mobility scooters.

     

    ISO 7176-6:2018 Wheelchairs Part 6: Determination of maximum speed, acceleration and deceleration of electric wheelchairs

    ISO 7176-6:2018 specifies the test methods for determining the maximum speed, acceleration, and deceleration of electrically powered wheelchairs, including scooters, designed to transport a single occupant.

    The maximum rated speed on a flat surface shall not exceed 15 km/h (4.167 m/s).

     

    ISO 7176-7:1998 Wheelchairs - Part 7: Measurement of seating and wheel dimensions

    ISO 7176-7:1998 specifies methods for measuring seating and wheel dimensions of wheelchairs.

    ISO 7176-7:1998 applies to wheelchairs and mobility vehicles for persons with disabilities with a body mass not exceeding 120 kg, and with indoor and outdoor mobility speeds not exceeding 15 km/h, including the following categories specified in ISO 9999:1992:

    ● Manually steered, electrically powered wheelchair 12 21 24

    ● Electrically powered wheelchair with power steering 12 21 27

    ● Attendant-controlled electric wheelchair 12 21 21

    ● Manually controlled attendant wheelchair 12 21 03

    ● Dual rear-wheel drive wheelchair 12 21 06

    ISO 7176-7:1998 does not apply to wheelchairs with a seat width of less than 212 mm.

    ISO 7176-7:1998 does not specify requirements for rated seating capacity or wheel size of wheelchairs.

     

     

    ISO 7176-8:2014/AS/NZS ISO 7176.8:2015 Wheelchairs - Requirements and test methods for static, Impact and fatigue strengths

     

    ISO 7176-9:2009 Wheelchairs Part 9: Climatic tests for electric wheelchairs

    ISO 7176-9:2009 specifies requirements and test methods for determining the effects of rain, dust, condensation, and temperature variations on the essential functions of electrically powered wheelchairs, including scooters.

    It applies to wheelchairs designed to carry a single occupant with a maximum speed not exceeding 15 km/h.

    ISO 7176-9:2009 does not include requirements for corrosion resistance.

     

    ISO 7176-10:2008 Wheelchairs Part 10: Determination of obstacle-climbing ability of electrically powered wheelchairs

    ISO 7176-10:2008 specifies a test method for determining the ability of electrically powered wheelchairs, including scooters, to climb and descend obstacles within a specified time.

    It applies to electric wheelchairs with a maximum rated speed not exceeding 15 km/h.

     

    ISO 7176-11:2012 Wheelchairs Part 11: Test dummies

    ISO 7176-11:2012 specifies requirements for test dummies with a mass greater than or equal to 25 kg used for wheelchair evaluation.

    ISO 7176-11:2012 provides formulas for determining the overall center of mass of the test dummy, the mass of its individual components, and the positions of the pivots connecting these components.

    It also defines the characteristics of loading pads used to support test dummy segments.

    ISO 7176-11:2012 aims to ensure that test dummy designs provide comparable results in stability, performance, and durability testing of manual and powered wheelchairs, including scooters.

    ISO 7176-11:2012 also includes reference tables showing mass and center-of-mass positions derived from the formulas, covering test dummy masses from 25 kg to 300 kg in increments.

     

    ISO 7176-13:1989 Wheelchairs—Determination of coefficient of friction of test surface

    ISO 7176-13:1989 specifies a method for determining the coefficient of friction of a test surface.

    The method involves dragging a specified wooden block across a standard rough test surface at a specified speed. The bottom surface of the block is covered with a layer of standard rubber to ensure consistent test results.

     

    ISO 7176-14:2022 Wheelchairs Part 14: Power and control systems for electrically powered wheelchairs and scooters Requirements and test methods

    ISO 7176-14:2022 specifies requirements and test methods for the power and control systems of electrically powered wheelchairs and scooters.

    It establishes safety and performance requirements under normal use, as well as under certain foreseeable misuse and fault conditions.

    It also specifies methods for measuring the forces required to operate controls and establishes limits for the forces required for certain operations.

    ISO 7176-14:2022 applies to electrically powered wheelchairs and scooters with a maximum speed not exceeding 15 km/h, intended for indoor and/or outdoor mobility of persons with disabilities within the scope of ISO 7176-11.

     

    ISO 7176-15:1996 Wheelchairs Part 15: Requirements for information disclosure, documentation and labelling

    ISO 7176-15:1996 specifies the information, documentation, and labeling requirements that manufacturers shall provide when supplying wheelchairs.

     

    ISO 7176-16:1997 Resistance to ignition of upholstered parts - requirements and test methods

    ISO 7176-16:1997 specifies requirements and test methods for evaluating the flame resistance of postural support devices that are integral parts of wheelchairs.

    ISO 7176-16:1997 does not apply to postural support devices primarily intended to maintain tissue integrity, such as those defined in ISO 16840 series.

    It applies to postural support devices such as suspension seats or harnesses where non-integrated support components, such as seat cushions, may be installed.

    ISO 7176-16:1997 evaluates only the flame resistance of the tested component and does not assess the flammability performance of the entire wheelchair.

    It does not apply to other wheelchair components such as wheels or frames. The standard also does not consider changes in flame resistance caused by washing or use.

    ISO 7176-16:1997 allows testing of components normally used in the horizontal plane, such as upper supports (e.g., arm supports), and components normally used in the vertical plane, such as front, rear, side, and intermediate supports (e.g., chest harnesses and calf supports), which shall be tested separately.

    Note 1: The requirements of this standard represent basic minimum requirements and may be lower than mandatory requirements in some countries.

    Note 2: Requirements for controlling ignition risks caused by electrical and electronic components are included in ISO 7176-14.

    Note 3: Before specific flammability standards are established for other wheelchair components or accessories, any structural component considered to present an ignition risk is recommended to be tested at least to the flammability level specified in this standard.

     

     

    ISO 7176-19:2022 Wheelchairs Part 19: Wheeled mobility devices for use as seats in motor vehicles

    ISO 7176-19:2022 specifies test methods, requirements, and recommendations for wheelchairs intended to be used as seats in motor vehicles.

    The standard covers requirements related to wheelchair design, performance, labeling, pre-sale information, user instructions, and user warnings.

    ISO 7176-19:2022 applies to manual and powered wheelchairs, including scooters, which, in addition to their primary function as wheeled mobility devices, are intended to be used as forward-facing seats in motor vehicles for adults and children with a body mass of 12 kg or greater.

    ISO 7176-19:2022 applies to complete wheelchair systems, including the frame or power base and seating system.

    It also applies to wheelchairs equipped with additional components designed to facilitate compliance with one or more requirements of this standard.

     

    ISO 7176-21:2009 Wheelchairs Part 21: Requirements and test methods for electromagnetic compatibility of electrically powered wheelchairs and scooters, and battery chargers

    ISO 7176-21:2009 specifies requirements and test methods for electromagnetic emissions and electromagnetic immunity of electrically powered wheelchairs and scooters intended for indoor and/or outdoor use, with a maximum speed not exceeding 15 km/h.

    It also applies to manual wheelchairs equipped with auxiliary power kits.

    However, it does not apply to vehicles designed to transport more than one person.

    ISO 7176-21:2009 also specifies electromagnetic compatibility requirements and test methods for battery chargers used with electrically powered wheelchairs and scooters.

     

    ISO 7176-22:2014 Wheelchairs Part 22: Set-up procedures

    ISO 7176-22:2014 A setup procedure is specified as part of the adjustable wheelchair used for test preparation. This procedure takes into account the manufacturer’s instructions.

    ISO 7176-22:2014 Applicable to those intended to provide indoor and / Or manual and electric wheelchairs (including scooters) for outdoor use.

     

    ISO 7176-25:2022 Wheelchairs Part 25: Batteries and chargers for powered wheelchairs

    ISO 7176-25:2022 specifies requirements and test methods for lead-acid batteries and battery chargers used in electrically powered wheelchairs and scooters.

    The charger requirements apply to chargers with a rated input voltage not exceeding 250 V AC and a rated output voltage not exceeding 36 V.

     

    ISO 7176-26:2007 Wheelchairs Part 26: Vocabulary 

    ISO 7176-26:2007 specifies terminology and definitions related to manual and powered wheelchairs, including scooters and associated seating systems.

    ISO 7176-26:2007 includes, but is not limited to, preferred terms used in two or more of the following standards:

    ISO 7176 series, ISO 10542 series, and ISO 16840 series.

    It excludes terms considered sufficiently defined in general English usage.

     

    ISO 7176-28:2012 Wheelchairs Part 28: Requirements and test methods for stair-climbing devices

    ISO 7176-28:2012 applies to stair-climbing chairs and stair-climbing wheelchair systems.

    In the specified configuration, the stair-climbing device ascends stairs backward with the occupant facing downward and descends stairs forward with the occupant also facing downward.

    ISO 7176-28:2012 applies to stair-climbing devices designed for transporting adults and children. It does not apply to stair-climbing devices intended to be operated or assisted by children.

    ISO 7176-28:2012 specifies requirements and test methods for electrically powered stair-climbing devices. It does not apply to manually operated stair-climbing devices.

    ISO 7176-28:2012 specifies test methods to demonstrate that stair-climbing devices can safely operate on stairs with a 35° inclination, or on steeper stairs when specified by the manufacturer.

    The standard also includes requirements related to ergonomics, labeling, and information disclosure.
