    About the ACA Recognition Program

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) recognition program is designed to inform the public and professionals about the value of products or services. It focuses on products that provide benefits to both consumers and chiropractic professionals. Recognition is granted only after comprehensive review, analysis, testing, and evaluation by the ACA Business Development Advisory Board (BDAB), followed by final approval from the ACA Board of Governors.

    Introduction to the ACA Association

The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) was founded in 1922 and merged with the Universal Chiropractic Association in 1930 to form the National Chiropractic Association (NCA). In 1963, the NCA was reorganized and re-established under the name American Chiropractic Association (ACA).

The mission of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) is to inspire and empower its members to elevate the health and well-being of communities. To achieve this, the ACA leads the chiropractic profession in the most constructive and impactful way—working alongside other healthcare professionals, advocating for legislation and policies that support chiropractic care, supporting meaningful research, and applying that research to clinical practice. The ACA also provides professional and educational opportunities for its members and is committed to being a positive and unifying force in modern chiropractic practice.

    ACA Certification Product Scope

The ACA focuses on products that provide chiropractic-related benefits to consumers and chiropractic practitioners. Products such as mattresses, office chairs, sofas, pillows, backpacks, fitness equipment, and similar items fall within the scope of ACA recognition.

    Product Evaluation

Products that undergo thorough review, analysis, testing, and evaluation by a panel of chiropractic professionals with specific and relevant expertise may be granted ACA recognition after final approval by the ACA Board. Products are also reviewed periodically to ensure continued compliance with the high standards required for recognition. For example, for a backpack, the ACA may provide the following evaluation comments:
Injection-molded shoulder straps – create innovative flex points to reduce strain on the collarbone and pressure points
Anatomically correct shoulder straps designed to better fit male or female body structures
Contoured back panel features recessed channels designed to reduce spinal pressure and provide more comfortable load-bearing performance
Updated internal organization provides sufficient pockets and compartments for organizing essentials for school, work, and leisure

    Evaluation Timeline

The evaluation period typically takes approximately three months, depending on the time required to inspect and assess each product. The process may include consultation with doctors in specialized fields closely related to the submitted product. After the initial 30 to 90-day evaluation period, the advisory committee will convene to discuss the results and determine whether additional time is required for further evaluation.
