Category:
ANSI/WCMA 100.1 U.S. Standard for Drawstring Curtains
Curtain Product Safety Standards ANSI/WCMA A100.1 Its release aims to reduce injuries among young children when using certain products with soft rings. / The risk of strangulation—this standard is established by the Curtain Manufacturers Association. (Window Covering Manufacturers Association, WCMA) The members have been established and approved by the American National Standards Institute. (ANSI) It is adopted as the US. national standard for corded window covering product safety.
Over the past few years, numerous recalls have occurred in the United States and Canada due to strangulation hazards caused by looped cords. According to statistics, from 1999 to 2011, a total of 276 incidents involving all types of corded window coverings were reported, including 140 fatal cases. These incidents have increased attention to safety concerns and driven the need for stricter requirements to reduce the strangulation risks associated with corded window coverings.
ANSI/WCMA A100.1 requires safety devices to eliminate, separate, shield, or secure looped cords on window coverings, along with required warning labels and markings. The standard applies to indoor window covering products and hardware, including bead chains, cords, and other flexible looped devices. It covers horizontal, vertical, and roller blinds; honeycomb, pleated, Roman, and roll-up shades; as well as cross-pull curtain rods. CPSC and WCMA collaborate to provide technical support for the development of performance requirements and test methods under ANSI/WCMA A100.1.
