NF D60‑013 Standard Description
NF D60-013 Protocol for Assessment of the Ignitability of Upholstered Furniture - Ignition Source Equivalent to a Burning 20 G Paper Cushion - Coverings and Upholstery Materials
NF D60-013 Standard Introduction
Upholstered furniture is widely used in both public and residential settings, and its fire performance is critical. Fire resistance can be enhanced via fabric coverings, coatings, fire barriers, flame retardants, and foams. This test method evaluates the performance of seat covers/envelopes when exposed to a 20 g kraft paper pad as the ignition source.

NF D60-013 Scope of Application
Applies to all types of upholstered seats.

NF D60-013 Test Method
Within 20 minutes of removal from the conditioning environment, follow these steps:

◎ Raise and ignite the burner, adjust gas pressure and flow to specified values, and allow the flame to stabilise for at least 2 minutes.
◎ Place the burner on the specimen and start the timer.
◎ Keep the lit burner in contact for 120 seconds, then carefully remove it and extinguish the burner. The maximum test duration is 20 minutes from burner application.

◎ Early termination is permitted before the specified duration if: flames spread to within 200 mm of the seat's central axis on each side and the backrest is burning, or if all three of the following conditions are met:
(1) Weight has stabilised;
(2) No flashover or hot spots are present;
(3) No smoke emission.
NF D60-013 Basis for determination
After burning, measure char residue dimensions and mass loss of the specimen.
