    AS/NZS 4438:1997R2016 Australian/New Zealand Standard - Height adjustable swivel chairs

    AS/NZS 4438 specifies evaluation and selection requirements for height-adjustable swivel chairs.The standard establishes minimum requirements for chair functionality, strength, durability, and stability, providing designers and manufacturers with guidance for developing suitable products.

    AS/NZS 4438 identifies various end-use and service applications requiring highly adjustable swivel chairs.

    Accordingly, four levels of requirements are established to cover different service conditions and durability requirements.The standard also distinguishes functional categories, including executive chairs, general-use chairs, and chairs intended for keyboard operators.

    AS/NZS 4688.1:2018 Furniture - Fixed height chairs, Part 1: Safety and general requirements 

    AS/NZS 4688.1 specifies safety and general requirements, as well as recommendations, for freestanding fixed-height chairs.It applies to chairs with stationary, swivel, or rocking bases and upright, reclining, or tilt-adjustable backrests designed to accommodate one or more occupants.The base may include wheels, casters, or glides.

    AS/NZS 4688.2:2000 Furniture - Fixed height chairs, Part 2: Determination of strength and durability 

    AS/NZS 4688.2 describes test methods for determining the strength and durability of all types of chairs, simple chairs, and stools.

    Additional testing may be required for certain chair types and chairs intended for specific applications.

    AS/NZS 4688.2 does not include testing of reclining or tilting chairs when tested in the reclined or tilted position.

    The forces and dimensions used in the tests apply to chairs and stools intended for adult users.

     

    AS/NZS 4688.3:2000 Furniture - Fixed height chairs, Part 3: Determination of stability - Upright chairs

    AS/NZS 4688.3 describes a method for determining the stability of all types of upright chairs, stools, and sofas.

    AS/NZS 4688.3 is not applicable to sofas or other multi-seat furniture, reclining lounge chairs, chairs with reclining mechanisms, or chairs that swivel or rock.

    AS/NZS 4688.3 applies to testing chairs equipped with reclining, tilting, and adjustable backrest-angle mechanisms when these chairs are used in an upright position.

    AS/NZS 4688.4:2000 Furniture - Fixed height chairs, Part 4: Determination of stability - Chairs with tilting or reclining mechanisms when fully reclined, and rocking chairs

    AS/NZS 4688.4 describes methods for determining the rearward stability of chairs equipped with tilting, reclining, and adjustable backrest mechanisms when fully tilted or reclined, as well as rocking chairs.The forward and lateral stability of these chairs and upright chairs is determined according to the method described in ISO 7174-1.AS/NZS 4688.4 only specifies the test method for evaluating rearward stability when a chair is fully reclined or in a lying position and shall not be considered a substitute for upright chair stability testing.

    AS/NZS 3813:2016 Plastic monobloc chairs 

    AS/NZS 3813 specifies evaluation and selection requirements for plastic single-seat chairs intended for adult use.It does not apply to chairs designed for bathroom use.

    AS/NZS 3813 specifies minimum requirements for the strength, durability, and stability of finished chairs, without considering specific materials, designs, structures, or manufacturing processes.

    AS/NZS 4442 - 2018 Office Desks

    AS/NZS 4442 specifies requirements for the evaluation, design, and selection of office desks.

    The standard establishes minimum requirements for functionality, strength, durability, and stability, providing designers and manufacturers with guidance for developing suitable products.

    AS/NZS 4442 covers freestanding desks, including single- and double-workstation desks, height-adjustable desks, fixed-height extension desk units, and tables intended for use as desks.

     

    AS/NZS 4443:1997 Office panel systems – Workstations

    AS/NZS 4443 specifies requirements for the evaluation, design, and selection of office panel systems and workstations.

    The standard establishes minimum requirements for workstation functionality, strength, durability, and stability, providing guidance for designers and manufacturers.

    AS/NZS 4443 is not applicable to mobile workstations or special applications, such as schools, where counter or bench heights may differ from those specified in the standard.

    AS 5079.1:2003R2014 Lateral Filing Cabinets

    AS 5079.1 provides manufacturers and users with a common basis for evaluating the functionality, safety, durability, and structural adequacy of freestanding horizontal filing cabinets.

    AS 5079.2 provides manufacturers and users with a common framework for evaluating the functionality, safety, durability, and structural adequacy of freestanding vertical filing cabinets.

     

    AS 5079.3:2003R2014 Mobile Pedestals

    AS 5079.3 provides manufacturers and users with a common framework for evaluating the functionality, safety, durability, and structural integrity of freestanding mobile pedestal units.

     

    AS/NZS 4610.1:2020 Furniture - School and educational Part 1: Tables- Strength, durability and stability

    AS/NZS 4610.1 specifies dimensional requirements (including dimensional markings), general safety requirements, strength, durability, stability, and marking requirements for freestanding tables used as learning spaces in educational environments.It applies to tables with or without additional storage features.

     

    AS/NZS 4610.2:2020 Furniture - School and educational Part 2: Chairs - Strength, durability and stability

    AS/NZS 4610.2 specifies dimensional, safety, strength, durability, and stability requirements for chairs in eight different sizes used in educational institutions.

    AS/NZS 4935:2009+A1:2013 Domestic furniture—Freestanding chests of drawers, wardrobes and bookshelves/bookcases—Determination of stability

    AS/NZS 4935 specifies test methods for determining the stability of freestanding household drawer cabinets exceeding 500 mm in height, freestanding wardrobes exceeding 500 mm in height, and freestanding bookshelves/bookcases exceeding 600 mm in height. It also specifies labeling requirements.

    AS/NZS 4935 applies to furniture products made from any material.

    AS/NZS 4935 is specifically intended to ensure the stability of freestanding furniture and prevent hazards caused by children climbing on furniture.

    The purpose of AS/NZS 4935 is to reduce the risk of specified furniture items tipping over and causing injury or death, particularly to children.
    AS/NZS 4790:2006R 2016 Furniture—Storage units—Determination of strength and durability

    AS/NZS 4790 specifies test methods for determining the strength and durability of fully assembled, ready-to-use storage units, including both movable and fixed components.

    The tests involve applying loads, forces, and velocities to each component to simulate normal functional use and reasonably foreseeable misuse conditions.
