EN 1957 Standard Introduction
As consumers increasingly focus on healthy sleep, the comfort and support performance of beds and mattresses have become important indicators of sleep quality. Modern consumers no longer focus only on appearance and materials but also value actual product performance under scientifically controlled testing conditions. EN 1957 simulates stress conditions during long-term use to quantitatively evaluate mattress firmness, comfort, and durability.

EN 1957 Scope of Application
EN 1957 specifies test methods for determining the durability and hardness of mattresses and complete bed units equipped with mattresses, including integrated mattress pads. The standard applies to various structures, such as independent mattresses, spring mattresses, and foam mattresses.

Note: Not applicable to special‑type products such as waterbeds, inflatable mattresses, and children’s beds.
EN 1957 Test Method
The test mainly simulates actual mattress usage conditions, such as loading and deformation, to evaluate durability, firmness, and other physical properties.
Test Preparation: Place the mattress, bed base, and bed frame on the test apparatus, ensuring that the mattress is positioned on the standard support surface. The mattress shall be conditioned under ambient conditions for at least 5 hours.
Equipment Calibration: The roller shall be parallel to the sleeping surface of the mattress, with a maximum stroke of 250 mm, and perpendicular to the longitudinal centerline of the mattress. A preliminary measurement shall be performed after 100 continuous cycles.
Test procedure: The test shall be conducted for 30,000 cycles without interruption for mattress inspection. One cycle consists of one forward and backward rolling movement.

EN 1957 Basis for determination
Payload / Deformation: Apply the specified load (such as 210 N, 275 N, and 340 N) and measure mattress deformation under different pressure levels.
Hardness measurement: Measure the mattress hardness value to evaluate its support performance under different pressure conditions.
Height loss: After testing, measure the change in mattress height. This value reflects the deformation of the mattress after long-term use.
