EN 581-1:2017 specifies general safety requirements for outdoor chairs and tables intended for camping, domestic, and contract use.
EN 581-1:2017 does not apply to removable decorations, coverings, or permanently fixed furniture.
EN 581-2:2015 specifies minimum safety, strength, and durability requirements for all types of outdoor seating intended for adults, regardless of material, design, structure, or manufacturing process.
EN 581-2:2015 does not apply to street furniture.
EN 581-2:2015 does not apply to removable decorations and coverings.
EN 581-2:2015 excludes durability requirements for casters, wheels, and height-adjustment mechanisms.
EN 581-2:2015 excludes requirements related to electrical safety.
EN 581-2:2015 excludes requirements related to resistance against ageing and degradation caused by light, temperature, and moisture.
EN 581-2:2015 test requirements are based on use by persons with a body weight not exceeding 110 kg.
EN 581-3 specifies mechanical safety requirements and test methods for outdoor tables intended for camping, domestic, and contract use, regardless of material, design, structure, or manufacturing process.
EN 581-3 is not applicable to heavy-duty contract outdoor furniture requiring higher performance levels, street furniture, or furniture permanently fixed to the ground or walls.
ASTM F 1561-03(R 2014) Plastic Chairs for outdoor Use
ASTM F1561-03 specifies nationally recognized performance requirements for Class A (residential) and Class B (non-residential) plastic chairs intended for outdoor use.
ASTM F1561-03 does not apply to recliners, multi-position chairs, upholstered chairs, or other types of furniture.
ASTM F1561-03 covers physical performance requirements, including outdoor weathering, impact resistance, static load testing, and rear-leg durability testing.
NF D61-062/A1:2019 specifies nationally recognized performance requirements for Class A (residential) and Class B (non-residential) outdoor adjustable deck chairs.
NF D61-062/A1:2019 does not apply to recliners, multi-position chairs, upholstered chairs, or other types of furniture.
NF D61-062/A1:2019 covers physical performance requirements, including outdoor weathering, impact resistance, static load testing, and rear-leg durability testing.

CEN/TR 581-4 specifies requirements and test methods for evaluating the structural integrity and surface finish durability of adult outdoor furniture intended for camping, domestic, and contract use, regardless of material, design, structure, or manufacturing process.
CEN/TR 581-4 also provides requirements related to weathering effects, particularly ultraviolet radiation, and the safety risks caused by environmental exposure on plastic materials.
CEN/TR 581-4 establishes consumer information labels to provide details regarding different durability ratings.
CEN/TR 581-4 does not apply to the following situations:
- Surface resistance requirements against chemical and mechanical stresses;
- Heavy-duty contract outdoor furniture that may require higher performance standards;
- Permanently installed outdoor furniture and street furniture;
- Removable decorations and coverings;
- Audience seating facilities;
- Strict contract-use applications.
UL-4041-2022 Outline of Investigation for Outdoor Furniture
UL 4041-2022 specifies structural and testing requirements for outdoor patio furniture, including tables, tables with umbrellas, chairs, multi-seat products, chaise lounges, benches, hanging chairs or swings, and daybeds.
ASTM F 1838-2019 Adults and children's Plastic Chairs for outdoor Use
ASTM F1838-2019 establishes national performance requirements for Class A (residential) and Class B (non-residential) plastic chairs intended for outdoor use by adults and children.
ASTM F1838-2019 does not apply to recliners, multi-position chairs, upholstered chairs, or other types of furniture.
ASTM F1838-2019 covers product performance requirements, including outdoor weathering, impact resistance, static load testing, and rear-leg testing.
