    GB/T 1741-2020 Scope of Application

    GB/T 1741-2020 specifies the test principles, instruments and materials, culture media and reagents, test procedures, and test report requirements for determining the mold resistance of paint films.

    GB/T 1741-2020 is applicable to the determination of mold resistance of architectural coating films. The mold resistance evaluation of other types of paint films may also be conducted according to this standard.

     

     
     

    GB/T 1741-2020 Principle of the Test

    GB/T 1741-2020 simulates natural environmental conditions suitable for mold growth and establishes an accelerated test method based on the physiological characteristics of mold development. Mold spores are inoculated onto the surface of test specimens, and the specimens are then incubated under environmental conditions favorable for mold growth.The mold growth on the surface of the specimens is observed, and the mold resistance of the paint film is evaluated and classified according to the degree of mold development.

    GB/T 1741-2020 Test method

    GB/T 1741-2020 establishes two test methods: the petri dish method and the suspension method. The petri dish method is suitable for small test specimens, while the suspension method is applicable to large specimens, irregularly shaped specimens, and samples unsuitable for testing using the petri dish method.

    Test conditions: Samples from both the experimental group and the control group are placed in a constant-temperature and high-humidity incubator and cultured under conditions of 25°C–30°C and relative humidity ≥85% for 7 days. The control samples are then visually inspected for mold growth. All three control samples shall exhibit mold growth; otherwise, the test is considered invalid and shall be repeated.

    If mold growth is observed on all control samples, the test specimens and control samples shall continue incubation until 28 days, after which the results are evaluated.
