    GB 8624 Standard Introduction

    Building fires pose significant risks to human life and property. The combustion performance of building materials and products is an important factor affecting fire initiation and development.To effectively prevent building fires, regulate the building materials market, and standardize the evaluation criteria for the combustion performance of building materials, the GB 8624 standard was developed.

     

    GB 8624 Scope of Application

    GB 8624 applies to structural materials and various decorative finishing materials used in industrial and civil construction projects.

     

     

    GB 8624 Fire Performance Classification of Building Materials

    A Grade Homogeneous Materials

    When tested according to GB/T 5464, the combustion performance shall meet the following requirements:

    ◎ The average temperature rise inside the furnace shall not exceed 50°C.

    ◎ The average sustained flaming time of the specimen shall not exceed 20 s.

    ◎ The average mass loss rate of the specimen shall not exceed 50%.

    A Grade Composite (Sandwich) Materials

    Materials meeting the following requirements shall be classified as A Grade materials:

    ◎ According to GB/T 8625 testing: The average residual length of each group of specimens shall be ≥35 cm, the average peak smoke temperature of each test shall be ≤125°C, and no combustion shall occur on the back surface of the specimen.

    ◎ According to GB/T 8627 testing: The smoke density rating (SDR) shall be ≤15.

    ◎ According to GB/T 14402 and GB/T 14403 testing: The calorific value of the material shall be ≤4.2 MJ/kg, and the heat release per unit area of the specimen shall be ≤16.8 MJ/m².

    ◎ The LC₀ value of smoke toxicity generated during material combustion shall be ≥25 mg/L.

    B₁ Grade Materials

    Materials meeting the following requirements shall be classified as B₁ Grade materials:

    ◎ According to GB/T 8626 testing: The combustion performance shall meet the specified requirements of GB/T 8626, and burning droplets shall not ignite the filter paper.

    ◎ According to GB/T 8625 testing: The average residual length of each group of specimens shall be ≥15 cm, and the average peak smoke temperature of each test shall be ≤200°C.

    ◎ According to GB/T 8627 testing: The smoke density rating (SDR) shall be ≤75.

    B₂ Grade Materials

    According to GB/T 8626 testing: The combustion performance shall meet the requirements specified in GB/T 8626, and burning droplets shall not ignite the filter paper.

    B₃ Grade Materials

    Combustible building materials that do not meet the requirements of B₁ or B₂ grades shall be classified as B₃ Grade materials.
