Flame-retardant building materials
The fire‑resistance performance of building components is typically assessed in terms of three key criteria: load‑bearing capacity (R), integrity (E), and insulation (I). In addition, there are specialized metrics, such as the fire‑sprinkler test. Fire resistance is an intrinsic property of composite structures; it is a structural‑level rather than a material‑specific test, and thus often involves large‑scale, highly complex testing procedures.
Common test subjects in fire-resistance testing include walls, floors, ceilings, beams, columns, balconies, pedestrian walkways, staircases, doors and windows, ventilation openings, joints, chimneys, raised floors, and anti-static flooring, among other products.
