Mattress and bedding testing
As people increasingly seek aesthetic appeal and comfort in interior design, the widespread use of upholstered furniture—such as sofas, mattresses, and soft‑packaged decorative items—has significantly heightened the risk of building fires. Because foam materials like polyurethane are commonly used as core components in such furnishings, their flammability means that once a mattress catches fire, the blaze can spread rapidly and prove extremely difficult to extinguish completely. When unflame‑retardant upholstered furniture is present at a fire scene, even a small ignition source—such as a match or cigarette—can easily escalate into flashover, leading to catastrophic fire development. Consequently, the flame‑retardant performance of mattresses has become a key fire‑safety concern in countries and regions worldwide.
